England came top of their group, with Slovakia at third place.  This rematch sees England as favourites, with Mars (lord 1) as their sole significator: Mercury, who as lord 10 would have been their co-significator, is already spoken for as the dispositor of the Part of Fortune.   

Rivals Slovakia have Venus (lord of the 7^th house) and Jupiter (lord of the 4^th house) as their significators.   

As with many contest charts in this tournament, this one is bereft of significant testimonies; this is usually a sign that the status quo will be maintained, and the favourites will win.   

However, the sextile from Venus (lord 7) to the Part of Fortune sounds a note of caution:  In his book ‘Sports Astrology’ John Frawley notes that only conjunction and opposition aspects from Lords 1 and 7 to the Part of Fortune work with any degree of reliability, so this sextile between Venus and Fortuna is a minor testimony at best.  Nevertheless, in an otherwise lacklustre chart, it suggests that England would be unwise to underestimate Slovakia.

Germany finished the first-round top of group A with 7 points. Denmark, with 3 points, finished second in group C.  

Although it can be tricky to compare the performance of teams in different groups, it is fair to say that Germany are the favourites to win the first match of the Round of 16.  

As favourites, they are signified by Jupiter (ruler of the 1^st house) and Mars (ruler of the 10^th house, the house of victory for the favourites).  

Opponents Denmark are represented by Mercury (lord 7) and Venus (lord 4).

This chart is notable only for its lack of testimonies. This would suggest that the status quo will be maintained with another win for Germany.  

However, the Moon’s applying square to Mercury (lord 7) may cast a shadow over Germany’s hopes.  

The Moon will need to travel just over the 5-degree orb usually considered most effective for a 90-minute football match.  

This suggests that Germany, although having the advantage, should be on their guard for a last-minute opportunity which could tip the balance in favour of Denmark.

Portugal are currently top of their group and are favourites. Jupiter (lord 1) and Venus (lord of the 10^th house, the house of victory for the favourites). 

Opponents Georgia are represented by Mercury (lord 7) and Mars (lord 4).  

In contrast to the many lacklustre charts which have characterised the tournament so far, this chart has plenty of testimonies: 

The Moon first applies to a trine with the antiscion of Venus (at 09 Gemini 18); a fortunate testimony for the favourites, Portugal. 

The Moon’s next aspect, a trine to the antiscion of Mercury (at 10 Gemini 31), favours Georgia. 

The Moon then sextiles Mars; another testimony for Georgia. This aspect is just over the 5-degree orb most effective in contest charts so may not signify. However, it could indicate a late chance for Georgia.  

With the testimonies so finely balanced, this match could resolve itself in another draw. Portugal will need to be on their guard right up to the final whistle, as the prospect of an opportunity for Georgia in the latter stages of the game is possible.  

The chart for Turkey (the favourites) vs Chechia is virtually identical in all important aspects, except one: The rulerships of the 10th and 4th houses are reversed, changing the co-significators for each team: In this chart, Mars rules the 10th house (for favourites Turkey) and Venus rules the 4th house (for the Czech Republic).  

A draw is again possible. Czechia will need to be on their guard for a late opportunity which favours Turkey.

Currently top of Group C, England are favourites and are signified by Jupiter (lord of the 1^st house) and Venus (lord of the 10^th house, the house of victory for the favourites). 

Opponents Slovenia have Mercury (lord of the 7^th house) and Mars (lord 4) as their representatives.  

Mars (for Slovenia) applies to square the Part of Fortune, but as John Frawley observes in his book “Sports Astrology”, only conjunctions and oppositions work with any degree of reliability, so this is a very minor testimony.  

Venus (for England) applies to trine the antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 16 Scorpio 32). As with the square between Mars and the Part of Fortune (which favours Slovenia) this is a minor testimony, of doubtful reliability.  

Two minor testimonies in an otherwise lacklustre chart suggest that this may be a more equal contest than the pundits suppose. It is likely that both sides will score, but in the absence of any other stronger testimonies, it is probable that England will carry the day.  

Although scheduled to kick off at the same time, the differing location of the Denmark vs Serbia match changes the significators for each team.  

Denmark, the favourites, are signified solely by Saturn (ruler of the 1^st house).  

The Moon, ruler of the 7^th house (for Serbia) already has an important role, describing how the events of the match will unfold. Therefore, Mars (who, as ruler of the 10^th house, might otherwise have been Denmark’s co-significator) steps in as main representative for Serbia.  Serbia has Venus (lord 4) as their co-significator.

It is difficult to find any testimony of true importance in this chart: The antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 09 Taurus 24) is conjunct Mars but the aspect is separating, not applying.  

The Moon makes no aspects of significance. This suggests that the status quo will be maintained and that the team which have achieved the best results so far (Denmark) will go on to win.

Currently second place in Group B with 3 points, Italy are favourites. They are represented by Jupiter, lord of the 1^st house, and Mars (ruler of the 10^th house, the house of victory for the favourites).  

Opponents Albania are signified by Mercury (lord 1) and Venus (lord 4). 

The Moon’s applying square to Mars (lord 10) should be sufficient to award victory to Italy.  

The Moon makes one other aspect (over the usual 5-degree orb for contest charts), a trine to the antiscion of Mercury at 14 Gemini 27 (a testimony in favour of Croatia).  

Trine, square and sextile aspects from the Moon to antiscia are often less reliable than conjunctions and oppositions, so this is unlikely to overrule the powerful square between the Moon and Mars which favours Italy.  

It is, however, a sign that Italy may have to work hard for their win.    

Spain are top of their group, and hotly tipped to win.  

As with the Croatia vs Italy match, Jupiter (lord 1) represents the favourites. Spain and Mercury (lord 7) signify their opponents Albania.  

Differing from the chart for Croatia vs Italy, the rulers of the 10^th and 4^th houses are reversed: In this chart for Albania vs Spain, Venus rules the 10^th house (for favourites Spain) and Mars rules the 4^th (for Albania).  

This means that the lunar square to Mars (which favours Italy in their game against Croatia), here is a powerful testimony for Albania.  

The only other testimony in the chart, a trine between the Moon and the antiscion of Mercury at 14 Gemini 27, echoes the message of the lunar square to Mars, supporting Albania.  

Spain are currently top of their group. It seems unlikely that Albania (currently joint bottom with 1 point) can beat them. However, stranger things have happened in the Euros and the contest chart for this match against suggests a few surprises may be in store.

Germany, as favourites, are awarded the 1^st house and its ruler, Jupiter. Venus, ruler of the 10^th house (the house of victory for the favourites) is their co-significator.  

Mercury (lord 7) and Mars (lord 4) represent opponents Switzerland.  

Mercury’s applying conjunction with the Part of Fortune suggests that Switzerland may do better than expected. Could they do well enough to beat seemingly unstoppable Germany?  Time will tell…

With identical kick-off times, the chart for Scotland vs Hungary is very similar to that for Switzerland vs Germany. 

In this chart, the applying conjunction between Mercury and the Part of Fortune is just beyond the 5-degree orb: This decreases the effectiveness of this powerful testimony for the favourites.  

Instead, the antiscion of Jupiter (at 23 Cancer 22) is placed closer to the Part of Fortune (and within the 5-degree orb). Although the aspect is separating, in a chart bereft of stronger testimonies, this might be enough to favour the favourites.  

As in the Switzerland vs Germany match, it seems that an aspect with the Part of Fortune will decide the result.  

A much bigger question mark hangs over the result of this match.  

The pundits favour Hungary (but only slightly).

Will the separating conjunction between the antiscion of Jupiter (lord 1) and the Part of Fortune be sufficient to award Hungary victory? Or could we see Scotland gain a late advantage (Mercury, lord 7, applies to Part of Fortune, just out of orb). Either way, with both teams fighting for their place in the tournament, this will prove to be a match worth watching.

Although Georgia and Czechia lost their opening matches, they played well.  Both teams will be keen to avoid an early exit from the tournament and will be going all out to win.    

Czechia, the favourites. are signified solely by Venus (lord of the 1^st house): The ruler of the 10^th house (the house of victory for the favourites) is the Moon who already has a key role describing how the events of the match will unfold.   

Georgia are represented by Mars, ruler of the 7^th house and Saturn, ruler of the 4^th house.  Mars is also dispositor of the Part of Fortune, but his role as main significator for Georgia takes precedence.   

The Moon separates from an opposition with Venus.  Despite the challenging nature of the opposition, this aspect would have favoured the favourites.  However, only applying aspects count in contest charts, so unfortunately for the favourites, this powerful testimony has no bearing on the result.   

The Moon’s next aspect is a trine to Mars.  If the pundits are correct, (and the Czech Republic truly are the favourites, signified by the 1^st house), this lunar trine to the ruler of the 7^th house is powerfully fortunate for Georgia.   

Judging by the prior performance of both teams, which belied the results of their matches, this promises to be a game worth watching. The team less favoured looks set to do better which (if the pundits are correct) is Georgia.

Jupiter, lord of the 1^st house, represents favourites France. They are also signified by Venus (ruler of the 10^th house, the house of victory for the favourites).  

Mercury, ruler of the 7^th house, and Mars, ruler of the 4^th house, signify the Netherlands.  

The Moon, placed just inside the 1^st house cusp, lends considerable support to the favourites, France.  

The placement of the Part of Fortune on the 7^th house cusp would be the same for any match scheduled around the time of the full Moon and does not signify.  However, the antiscion of the Part of Fortune is a different matter and has a great deal to say in this chart.  

At 07 Cancer 41, the antiscion of the Part of Fortune is placed midway between Venus (lord 10, for France) and Mercury at 09 Cancer 25 (lord 7, for the Netherlands). 

In contest charts, only applying aspects are relevant: Mercury has already travelled past his conjunction with the Part of Fortune, but the conjunction between the Part of Fortune and Venus has yet to happen. This conjunction between the Part of Fortune and Venus is another powerful testimony which favours France. 

With two testimonies in favour of the favourites, victory seems likely for France.

This promises to be an entertaining game between two well-matched teams. The pundits favour Spain, but Italy are sure to prove tough opposition.  

As favourites, Spain are signified by Jupiter (ruler of the 1^st house) and Venus (ruler of the 10^th house, the house of victory for the favourites). 

Italy are represented by Mercury (lord of the opposing 7^th house) and Mars (ruler of the 4^th house).  

Jupiter within 5 degrees of the Part of Fortune favours the favourites, Spain. 

However, the antiscion of Venus (at 25 Gemini 40) just inside the 7^th house favours Italy (as it shows that the favourite’s hopes of victory are in their power).  

These are two very powerful testimonies; one for each team.  

This promises to be a closely fought contest: With such finely balanced testimonies, a draw is very possible.

Venus, lord of the opposing 7^th house and Jupiter, lord of the 4^th house, represent rivals Hungary.  

In terms of testimonies, there is very little going on in this chart. None of the significators make aspects to the Moon, the Part of Fortune or a significant house cusp. The Moon makes only one aspect in her current sign of Scorpio, a trine to Neptune.  

The absence of ‘anything happening’ does not imply that the game will be dull, but does suggest that the status quo will be maintained, and that Germany will continue their winning streak.  

However, it will be interesting to see how that lunar trine to Neptune plays out, as he often brings an element of deception or confusion to those contests in which he chooses to participate.
