FA Cup Final 3rd June 2023: Manchester City vs Manchester United

Manchester City’s convincing 3-0 win over Sheffield United in the FA Cup Semi-Finals has made them favourites to win the Final at Wembley this Saturday. But do the heavens agree?

Favourites Manchester City are signified by Venus (lord of the 1st house). The Moon, lord of the 10th house (victory for the favourites), already has a key role as significator of events, so her dispositor Jupiter steps in as Manchester City’s co-significator.

Mars, lord of the opposing 7th house, signifies rivals Manchester United. Saturn, lord of the 4th house (victory for the underdogs) is their co-significator.

The Moon, who describes the progress of events during the match, first applies to square Saturn (for Manchester United) and next trines Mars (another testimony for Manchester United).

Jupiter, co-significator for Manchester City, is closely conjunct the North Node. This is a powerful testimony for the favourites.

We have two lunar testimonies for Manchester United, and one (admittedly very powerful) testimony for favourites Manchester City: In this Manchester-dominated FA Cup Final, City will play well, but United look to have the edge.

Championship Play-Off Final 27th May 2023: Coventry City vs Luton Town

Coventry City face Luton Town at Wembley this Saturday, for the Championship League play-off final. Luton Town are currently 3rd in the table, compared to Coventry City’s 5th place, and are favoured by the pundits to move up to the Premiership.

Venus (lord 1) represents favourites Luton. As the Moon, ruler of the 10th house (victory for the favourites) already has an important role as significator of events, her dispositor Mercury steps in as their co-significator.

Coventry City are represented by Mars, ruler of the opposing 7th house. Saturn, ruler of the 4th house (victory for the underdogs) is Coventry’s co-significator.

Mars (for Coventry) is placed in the 10th house but is too far from the house cusp (over 2 degrees) and in a different sign, so this testimony is not significant.

The Moon, significator of events, immediate applies to trine Saturn: This is highly positive for Coventry.

She next applies to trine Mercury, an aspect which favours Luton.

With testimonies so evenly balanced, we need something else to tip the balance in favour of one team or another.

Venus (lord 1) opposes the Part of Fortune. This aspect favours Luton and (if pundits are correct that Luton are the favourites) is highly likely to be their ticket to the Premiership.

Premier League Sunday 21st May 2023: Manchester City vs Chelsea

Currently placed at the top of the table, Manchester City are favourites to win Sunday’s match at Etihad Stadium. But do the stars agree?

As favourites, Venus (lord of the 1st house) represents the favourites (Manchester City). The Moon, lord of the 10th house (victory for the favourites) already has a key role as significator of events, so her dispositor (Mercury) is called from the substitute’s bench to step in as co-significator for Manchester City.

Mars, (lord of the opposing 7th house) and Saturn (lord of the 4th house; victory for the underdogs) represent Chelsea.

Venus is in the 10th house, placed very close to the 10th house cusp. This testimony for the favourites would be stronger if Venus were 2 to 3 degrees closer to the cusp, but it is highly positive, nonetheless.

The antiscion of the Moon (at 06 Cancer 30), placed even closer to the 10th house cusp, is another significant testimony for the favourites.

In the absence of any corresponding testimonies for Chelsea, the heavens appear to agree with the pundits: A win for Manchester City is the most likely outcome.

Premier League Saturday 13th May 2023: Leeds vs Newcastle

With favourites Newcastle 4th in the table, and Leeds facing the prospect of relegation, the outcome of this Saturday’s fixture at Elland Road seems a forgone conclusion. But do the heavens agree?

As favourites, Newcastle are represented by the Sun (Lord 1) and Venus (Lord of the 10th house; victory for the favourites).

Rivals Leeds are signified by Saturn (Lord of the opposing 7th house) and Mars (Lord of the 4th house; victory for the underdogs).

In his book “Sports Astrology” John Frawley notes that the Moon’s aspects decide the greatest proportion of contest charts.

Here the Moon applies to a conjunction with Saturn (Lord 7, for Leeds) at 06 Pisces 12. Bodily conjunctions from the Moon are usually enough to win the match: Contrary to expectations, could Leeds be celebrating this Saturday?

However, the Moon next trines Venus (at 06 Cancer 24). In this chart, Venus represents victory for the favourites, so this is an extremely positive testimony for Newcastle.

The closeness of these two lunar aspects (the conjunction and the trine), which occur almost simultaneously, suggest that this chart may offer an exception to the rule that bodily conjunctions from the Moon usually decide the match.

This is an exceptionally fascinating chart. A draw is the least likely outcome, but it will be interesting to see which lunar aspect is stronger and whether Leeds or Newcastle will emerge victorious.

FA Cup Semi-Final Sunday 23rd April 2023: Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United

Although Manchester United are (at the time of writing) 3rd place in the table and Brighton & Hove Albion’s 8th, the bookies favour The Seagulls to win the second of this weekend’s FA Cup Semi Finals.

As favourites, Brighton are signified by Mercury (ruler of the 1st and 10th houses), whilst Jupiter (7th and 4th house ruler) represents their opponents Manchester United. Mercury is retrograde (not a problem in contest charts) but is also under the sunbeams (within 17 degrees of the Sun and in the same sign) signalling a minor setback for the favourites.

In this chart, cast for the date and time of kickoff, there are few testimonies of note: A trine from the Moon to the antiscion of the Part of Fortune at 22 Aquarius 02 is the most significant.

The Moon also applies to conjunct the cusp of the 10th house (victory for the favourites).

Both these testimonies favour the favourites, but the orb of aspect in each case is greater than the 5-degrees considered most effective in 90-minute football matches: The most likely outcome is a win for the favourites, with the latter stages of the game deciding the result, and extra time a strong possibility.

If the bookies are correct and Brighton truly are the favourites, they should have cause to celebrate this Sunday.

FA Cup Semi-Final 22nd April 2023: Manchester City vs Sheffield United

Manchester City are the clear favourites to win this weekend’s first Semi-Final fixture, but the contest chart for the match appears to contradict this view.

As favourites, Manchester City are represented by Mercury, who rules both the 1st house and the 10th house (victory for the favourites).

Jupiter, lord of the opposing 7th house (also lord of the 4th house; victory for the underdogs), signifies Sheffield.

There are two key testimonies in this chart, both in favour of Sheffield: Firstly, Jupiter applies to bodily opposition with the Part of Fortune. The aspect could be closer, but as it is just within the 5-degree orb which is considered most effective for a 90-minute football match, this is highly positive for Sheffield.

The Moon also applies to square the antiscion of Jupiter (at 05 Virgo 40). In his book “Sports Astrology), John Frawley notes that aspects other than the conjunction or opposition are less reliable but seem to work if there is nothing to overrule them. In a chart bereft of any stronger testimonies, the lunar square to the antiscion of Jupiter further supports the case for Sheffield.

Could Sheffield be on the way to the FA Cup final? This chart certainly promises a closer game than expected, with potentially a few surprises in store.

Premier League Saturday 22nd April 2023: Fulham vs Leeds

The pundits expect Fulham to win this Saturday, but do the stars agree?

As favourites, Fulham are represented by the Sun, ruler of the 1st house and Mars (ruler of the 10th house; victory for the favourites).

Opponents Leeds are signified by Saturn, ruler of the 7th house and Venus, lord of the 4th house (victory for the underdogs).

The Sun (for Fulham) is placed in the 10th house:  This would be a sure sign of victory were the Sun closer to the 10th house cusp, and in the same sign as the Midheaven (an orb of around 2 degrees is most effective in contest charts).   However, with the Sun placed too far from the 10th house cusp, and in a different sign, this testimony does not signify.

The applying trine from the Part of Fortune to its dispositor, retrograde Mercury, is highly favourable testimony for Fulham, if not as positive as a conjunction.

The Moon often holds the key to the outcome of the match. Here, she applies to a square with Saturn; very positive for outsiders Leeds. Just over 4 degrees separate the Moon and Saturn from exact aspect.  As this is as close to the 5-degree limit considered most effective for a 90-minute football match, Leeds should look out for opportunities which arise towards the end of the match.

This fixture promises to be much closer than expected.  Leeds have the potential to surprise the pundits and gain the advantage; their best chances occurring in the latter stages of the game.

Premier League Saturday 15th April 2023: Aston Villa vs Newcastle United

This chart for Saturday’s Premier League fixture between Aston Villa and Newcastle illustrates the importance of the Moon in forecasting sporting contests.

Although Aston Villa have a home side advantage, Newcastle (placed 3rd in the table to Aston Villa’s 6th) are the pundits’ choice to win.

As favourites, Newcastle are awarded the 1st house and its ruler the Sun. They are also signified by Mars, ruler of the 10th house (victory for the favourites).

Their hosts and opponents are represented by Saturn (lord of the 7th house) and Venus (lord of the 4th house; victory for the underdogs).

Venus, lord of the 4th house, applies to conjunct the Part of Fortune. This is highly favourable for Aston Villa but not a conclusive testimony of victory (as it would be if the conjunction to the Part of Fortuna involved the 1st or 7th house rulers).

Instead, the applying lunar sextile to the Sun is to likely to decide this match for the favourites: Expect goals for both sides, but a win for Newcastle.

Premier League Sunday 9th April 2023: Liverpool vs Arsenal

At the time of writing (3rd April 2023), Arsenal currently lead the Premiership table, while Liverpool are placed 8th. Despite this, the pundits favour Liverpool to win. But do the stars agree?

The favourites are described by the 1st house and its ruler the Sun. They are also represented by Venus, ruler of the 10th house (victory for the favourites).

Their opponents are awarded the 7th house and its ruler Saturn.  Their co-significator is Mars, ruler of the 4th house (victory for the underdogs).

In contest charts, the Moon has one of the most important roles; as she describes the progress of events during the match, she often holds the key to the result.

The first lunar aspect is a sextile to the antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 00 Libra 43): This favours the favourites.

The next aspect of the Moon is a trine to the antiscion of the ruler of the 10th house, Venus (at 01 Leo 57), also a positive testimony for the favourites.

Finally, the Moon applies to a square with Saturn (7th house ruler) at 03 Pisces 34. The Moon’s final aspect (over the 5-degree orb considered effective for a 90-minute football match), usually decides the result: Overall, this promises to be a close match, but victory will go to the underdogs.

If the pundits are correct and Liverpool truly are the favourites, this chart points to a win for Arsenal.

Premier League Saturday 11th March 2023: Crystal Palace vs Manchester City

Although Crystal Palace are the hosts, Manchester City (currently placed second in the Table) are favourites so are awarded the 1st house and its ruler, Mercury.

Rivals Palace are represented by the opposing 7th house and its ruler, Jupiter.

The position of Mercury, just on the cusp of the 7th house, is the key to the result.  If Mercury had been placed inside the 7th house, this would point to a victory for Palace, showing Manchester City in the power of their rivals. However, Mercury on the cusp of the 7th house, shows that Manchester City will dominate the match.  With no other significant testimony in this chart, the probable outcome is a victory for the favourites.

Note that Mercury is in Pisces, the sign of his fall.  In contest charts, essential dignity has little bearing on the outcome of the match.  Manchester City may not play as well as expected, but could still do just enough to win.
