Chart is cast for BST

The chart for this game is lacklustre, but the absence of testimonies belies what promises to be a well-played and hard-fought match. 

Portugal are favourites and are signified by Jupiter (lord of the 1st) and Venus (lord of the 10^th house). 

Their rivals, Czechia, are represented by Mercury (ruler of the opposing 7^th house) and Mars (ruler of the 4^th house). 

Pluto, who often has a grudge against the favourites, hovers close to the 2^nd house cusp, but too far away to be significant: Pluto would need to be within 1-2 degree of the cusp to cause a serious affliction.  

Mars (lord 4) applies to conjunct the Part of Fortune, an aspect which would guarantee for victory for the Czech Republic were the orb closer (within 5 degrees). The proximity of Mars (lord 4) to the Part of Fortune is nevertheless fortunate: Czechia fans can be confident that their team will play well.  

The Moon’s aspects show the outcome of contest charts more than any other testimonies. Here there is only one: A trine to the antiscion of Jupiter (lord 1) at 24 Cancer 53. This is slightly beyond the 5-degree limit considered most effective for a 90-minute football match, but in the absence of stronger testimonies favours Portugal (perhaps due a chance in the latter stages of the game).  

This will prove an entertaining match, as both teams will be determined to play their best. The chart inclines towards a win for Portugal (due to that last-minute trine from the Moon to the antiscion of Jupiter), however the closeness of Mars (lord 4) to the Part of Fortune suggests that they would be very unwise to underestimate opponents the Czech Republic.

France are the favourites to win, but Austria are in good form and will prove strong opposition.  

As favourites, France are signified by Jupiter (ruler of the 1^st house) and Venus (ruler of the 10^th house, the house of victory for the favourites).  

Mercury (ruler of the opposing 7^th house) and Mars (lord of the 4^th house) represent rivals Austria.  

Just one aspect from the Moon has potential to decide the game’s result: An opposition to Mars, ruler of the 4^th house.  

This is the only aspect the Moon makes over the 5-degree orb usually considered effective for a 90-minute football match and it favours a win for Austria.  

If the pundits are correct, and France are the favourites, this match could deliver one of the biggest upsets in the tournament so far.

England are favourites to win their opening game of the tournament and are represented by Jupiter (ruler of the 1^st house) and Venus (ruler of the 10^th house). 

Serbia are signified by Mercury (lord 7^th) and Mars (lord 4^th).  

In his book “Sports Astrology”, John Frawley states that combustion (in traditional astrology, a planet within 8.5 degrees of the Sun) is a severe affliction but is only effective within 2 degrees in contest charts. If this rule holds true, Mercury (lord 7) is free of affliction by combustion, which is good news for Serbia.  

The Moon applies to trine Mercury (for Serbia) but her final aspect is a trine to Venus, which favours England.  

As the Moon’s final aspect often decides the result, this is a powerful testimony for an England win. However, this will not be an easy game for them, and goals for both sides are likely.

Italy are tipped to win their first game of the tournament and are therefore represented by Jupiter (lord of the 1^st house) and Venus (lord of the 10^th house, victory for the favourites).  

Rivals Albania have Mercury (ruler of the opposing 7^th house) and Mars (lord of the 4^th house) as their significators.  

Mercury is combust (within 8.5 degrees of the Sun; although John Frawley considers the most effective orb to be no more than 2 degrees in contest charts): This indicates extreme loss of power and influence for the team afflicted: In this case, Albania. 

This being the only testimony of note in this chart, it seems likely that the pundits are correct, and Italy will have cause for celebration.

Having won all three previous games, the Boston Celtics must be favourites to win this 4^th match in Dallas, even if the Mavericks have a home advantage.  

As favourites, the Celtics are represented again by Jupiter (lord of the 1^st house) and Venus (lord of the 10^th house).  

The Mavericks have Mercury, ruler of the opposing 7^th house and Mars, ruler of the 4^th house, as their significators.  

Had the game started slightly earlier, Mercury would have been cazimi (within 17 minutes of the Sun) which would have been the first time in this tournament that the Maverick’s main significator would be free of affliction. However, this moment has passed, and Mercury is once again powerfully debilitated by combustion.

The Moon’s applying opposition to the Part of Fortune favours the underdogs: John Frawley states that the Moon’s aspects to the Part of Fortuna are final. If this rule holds true, this aspect could herald some long-awaited good news for the Mavericks and cancels out the beneficial effects of the Moon’s next aspect; a trine to Jupiter.  

The Nodes are just close enough to the house cusps to help or hinder: The South Node in the 10^th house afflicts the fortunes of the Celtics, whilst the North Node in the 4^th house is beneficial for the Mavericks.  

For the first time in this tournament, we have a chart which is more inclined to favour the Mavericks. Whether the favourable testimonies of the Moon and the North Node are strong enough to overcome the powerful affliction of combustion remains to be seen.

Host nation Germany are favourites to win the opening game of the tournament. As favourites, they are represented by Jupiter (ruler of the 1^st house) and Venus, ruler of the 10^th house (the house of victory for the favourites).  

Scotland are signified by Mercury (ruler of the opposing 7^th house) and have Mars, ruler of the 4^th house as their co-significator.  

Mercury is cazimi (within 17’ of the Sun). In traditional astrology, a planet cazimi is like a man raised up to sit beside the king and is extremely fortunate. However, in contest charts between two teams, there is no king to help or hinder, and the usually powerful testimony of cazimi has no effect.  

With cazimi out of the equation, the most significant testimony is the lunar trine to Jupiter, in favour of Germany.  

The Moon also squares the antiscion of Venus, ruler of the 10th house (at 03 Cancer 03) which favours Germany and the antiscion of Mercury (at 05 Cancer 41) which is a positive testimony for Scotland.

This last aspect, the square to Mercury’s antiscion, is just outside the 5 degree orb considered effective for 90 minute football matches, and so is unlikely to make a big difference in Scotland’s fortunes (for this match), although it may indicate a chance for a goal in the latter stages of the game.

Pluto (who often appears to have a grudge against the favourites) is on the 2^nd house cusp. As Pluto is retrograde, and moving away from the house cusp, this is only a minor affliction but may signify that Germany will not play quite as well as expected.

However, the chart overall suggests that Germany should still play well enough to secure a victory for the host nation in their opening game.

NBA Finals Game 3 

Chart is cast for ET (EST) 

The pundits slightly favour the Mavericks, who will have the home advantage. However, the Celtics have won both previous games. This makes it difficult to decide on the favourites for this game.  

The favourites are awarded the 1^st house and its ruler Jupiter, with Venus, ruler of the 10^th house (house of victory for the favourites) as their co-significator.  

Their opponents are represented by Mercury, ruler of the 7^th house and Mars, ruler of the 4^th house.  

Mercury is combust: In previous games, this has proved a serious affliction for the underdogs.  

With the Moon making no applying aspect over the 5-degree orb considered most effective in contest charts, and the Nodes placed too far away from the 10^th and 4^th house cusps (they need to be within 2 degrees), the affliction to Mercury (7^th ruler) is the only significant testimony in this chart.  

This favours the favourites: I will leave it to those more knowledgeable about the two teams to decide whether the home advantage will be sufficient to make the Mavericks favourites, or if past results favour the Celtics.

After their convincing victory in the opening game of the finals, the Celtics are tipped to continue their winning streak.  But do the heavens agree?

As favourites, the Celtics are represented by Jupiter, lord of the 1^st house, and Venus (ruler of the 10^th house; the house of victory for the favourites).  

The Mavericks have Mercury (ruler of the opposing 7^th house) as their main significator, and Mars, ruler of the 4^th house, as their co-significator.  

Mercury is strongly placed in his own sign (Gemini) and on the cusp of his own house. This is a mildly fortunate testimony for the Mavericks which shows they will play well. If Mercury were a little closer to the house cusp (1-2 degrees) this would be a more convincing testimony in their favour.  

However, Mercury is also combust (within 8.5 degrees of the Sun): This is a serious affliction which counts strongly against the Mavericks, very much as it did in Game 1 (the forecast for that game erroneously overlooked the pernicious effects of affliction by combustion, which very likely played an important role in the result; a win for the Celtics).  

The Moon makes one significant aspect over the 5 degrees orb usually considered effective for contest charts (even allowing leeway for stoppages breaks and timeouts); a sextile to Jupiter for the Celtics.  

This favourable aspect from the Moon to Jupiter (for the Celtics) coupled with Mercury combust afflicting the Mavericks suggests a likely win for the favourites.

The Boston Celtics are favoured to win this opening game of the NBA finals: As favourites they are signified by the 1^st house and its ruler, Jupiter. 

Venus, ruler of the 10^th house (the house of victory for the favourites) is co-significator for the Celtics. 

Mercury, ruler of the opposing 7^th house, represents the Dallas Mavericks. They also have Mars, ruler of the 4^th house, as their co-significator.   

The Moon placed just inside the 7^th house is a fortunate testimony for the Mavericks:  In contest charts, the Moon describes how the events of the game will unfold.  Placed in a team’s house, the Moon shows that that team will have considerable influence over the result.  Ideally, the Moon should be closer to the 7^th house cusp (within 1-2 degrees) but this is a powerful testimony for the Mavericks, nonetheless.  

The North Node on the cusp of the 4^th house (for the Mavericks) is another testimony in their favour, just as the South Node on the 10^th house (the house of victory for the favourites) afflicts the fortunes of the Celtics.   

The Moon applies to oppose the Part of Fortune, which John Frawley notes in his book “Sports Astrology” favours the underdogs (in this case, the Mavericks).   

So far, we have three testimonies which support the Mavericks.  Does this chart hold any good news for the Celtics? 

Venus, ruler of the 10^th house, is on the cusp of the 7^th house, but a little too far away to make much difference.  If Venus had been closer (within 1-2 degrees), this would have shown the Celtics dominating the match.  It is still a sign that they will play well and prove strong opposition to the Maverick’s ambitions, but will it be enough to win? 

The Moon’s final aspect, a sextile to Mars, suggests not:  Mars rules the 4^th house (the house of victory for the underdogs, the Mavericks).  This last aspect of the Moon, together with all the other testimonies in their favour, forecast a win for the Mavericks.
