EFL (Carabao) Cup Special: Sunday 16th March 2025 Liverpool vs Newcastle United

Currently top of the Premier League, Liverpool are the odds-on favourites to win this Sunday’s EFL/Carabao Cup final at Wembley.  They are signified by Mercury, lord of the 1st and 10th houses.  Jupiter, lord of the 7th and 4th houses, represents rivals Newcastle United.

The Moon, whose major aspects describe how the match will unfold, is void of course (she makes no further aspects in her current sign of Libra).  In sporting contests, this often heralds a match with few surprises:  The status quo will be maintained, and a win for the favourites is the most likely outcome.

Mercury is retrograde, but this is not a setback in contest charts, especially as he applies to conjunct the Part of Fortune, a strong testimony for the favourites.  Venus intercedes between Mercury and the Part of Fortune, preventing a bodily (exact) conjunction, but she ‘collects the light’ of both, bringing Mercury and the Part of Fortune together through her influence.

Overall, the prospects look excellent for the favourites:  All things being equal, Liverpool fans should have much to celebrate on Sunday evening.

Post-match report 16th March 2025: The result was Liverpool-1 Newcastle-2, with Newcastle dominating the action to bring to an end a 70-year trophy wait. Mistakes can be valuable teachers, as in this case, where I failed to notice that Venus was also about to turn retrograde. There will be no conjunction with retrograde Mercury before Venus leaves Aries and re-enters the sign of Pisces, hence no ‘collection of light’ between Mercury and the Part of Fortune, which was the major testimony for a Liverpool win in my original forecast. In his book ‘Sports Astrology’, John Frawley states that it is crucial to make sure the aspect actually happens: The chart for this match is the perfect demonstration of why this advice is so important!

Astrological Football Forecast for the Premier League: 8th March 2025 Brentford vs Aston Villa

At the time of writing, the pundits favour Brentford, whose recent form is slightly better than their rivals (Brentford have won 3 games out of 5, whilst Villa have won 2). Nevertheless, this promises to be a very close contest, in which Brentford will be hoping that home crowd support will cheer them to victory.

As favourites, Brentford are signified by Mercury, ruler of the 1st and 10th houses (the 1st house represents the favourites, whilst the 10th house signifies their hopes of victory).

Their rivals, Aston Villa, are represented by Jupiter, ruler of the 7th and 4th houses.

The Moon (whose aspects decide the results of more matches than any other testimonies) makes no aspects to either Mercury or Jupiter over the 5-degree orb considered most effective for a 90-minute football match, so we must look elsewhere in this chart.

Jupiter (Aston Villa) placed just inside the 10th house (Brentford) is highly positive for Brentford.  If Jupiter had been directly on the cusp, this would have favoured Villa, showing them dominating Brentford’s hopes of victory.  However, Jupiter placed inside the 10th house, (even so close to the cusp), depicts Aston Villa in the power of their rivals.

If the pundits are correct and Brentford truly are the favourites, this testimony should be powerful enough to award victory to the home team.

Astrological Football Forecast for the FA Cup fifth-round: 3rd March 2025 Nottingham Forest vs Ipswich Town

This season, the form of both teams has been unreliable, but Nottingham Forest (3rd in the Premiership at the time of writing) have the home advantage and are considered favourites to win.  They are represented by Venus (ruler of the 1st house).  They have no co-significator for this game as the Moon (ruler of the 10th house, the house of victory for the favourites) already has a key role describing the events of the match.

Mars, ruler of the opposing 7th house and Saturn, ruler of the 4th house represent their opponents Ipswich Town.

Venus (1st house ruler) is placed inside the 7th house.  If Venus were closer to the cusp (within 1-2 degrees) this would be detrimental to Forest’s hopes of victory, depicting them in the power of their opponents.  However, Venus is retrograde and moving further closer towards the 7th house cusp, which makes her placement worthy of note, despite the testimony not being conclusive.

Over the 5-degrees orb considered most effective for a 90-minute football match, the Moon makes just one aspect; a square to the antiscion of the Part of Fortune at 08 Aquarius 52.  This favours Ipswich Town.

Aspects of the Moon to the Part of Fortune or the antiscion of the Part of Fortune are often conclusive. In his book “Sports Astrology” John Frawley notes that it is often unnecessary to take the Moon past one of these aspects, as they are so powerful:  The heavens suggest that Ipswich may play better than expected and have cause to celebrate on Monday evening.

Astrological Football Forecast for the Premier League: Tuesday 14th January 2025 Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool

This chart is cast for the Premier League match between Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool, which is due to kick off at 20:00 (8pm) GMT/UST on Tuesday 14th January 2025 at City Ground, Nottingham

Currently at the top of the table, Liverpool are masters of all they survey and are odds-on favourites to win against hosts Nottingham Forest this coming Tuesday.  However, the heavens suggest that these teams may be more closely matched than the pundits think.

As favourites, Liverpool are signified by Mercury, lord of the 1st house. Their co-significator is Venus (lord of the 10th house, the house of victory for the favourites).

Although they may enjoy a home advantage, Nottingham Forest are considered the team less likely to win and have Jupiter (lord of the opposing 7th house) and Mars (lord of the 4th house, the house of victory for the underdogs) as their significators.

Using major aspects only, the Moon’s only aspect to any significator for either team is a sextile to Jupiter, lord 7; a testimony for Nottingham Forest.

The Moon’s aspects describe the progress of events during the match.  As the sextile between the Moon and Jupiter occurs just beyond the limits of the 5-degree orb considered most reliable for 90-minute football matches, this aspect suggests a late opportunity for Forest, which becomes more likely if the match drifts into extra time.

The antiscion of the Moon (at 24 Taurus 02) is in proximity to the cusp of the 10th house (the house of victory for the favourites).  As noted in John Frawley’s book “Sports Astrology”, the Moon or her antiscion placed here is a strong testimony of victory for the favourites.

So we have one testimony for Nottingham Forest and one for Liverpool:  Of the two, the antiscion of the Moon’s placement on the 10th house cusp is the stronger and will probably give the favourites the winning edge.  However, Nottingham Forest will prove strong opposition and may have the chance to thwart Liverpool’s hopes for victory should the match stray into extra time.

Astrological Football Forecast for the Premier League: 4th January 2025 Brighton and Hove Albion vs Arsenal

In their first match of the new year, Brighton and Hove Albion play hosts to Arsenal.  Arsenal are odds-on favourites to win, but do the heavens agree?

As favourites. Arsenal are signified by the Sun, ruler of the 1st house, and Mars, ruler of the 10th house (the house of victory for the favourites).

Although they are playing at home, Brighton are considered the underdogs, so are designated by the opposing 7th house and its ruler Saturn.  They have Venus, ruler of the 4th house (the house of victory for the underdogs), as their co-significator.

Mars, Arsenal’s planet of victory, rests on their 1st house cusp.  If Mars was placed inside the 1st house, this would show victory already in their grasp.  However, Mars is on the cusp, showing that Arsenal are strongly focused on winning, but their victory is not guaranteed, especially as Mars is retrograde and moving away from the 1st house cusp.

The Moon, whose aspects often show how events will unfold, makes no decisive aspects to significators of either team.  This may forecast an uneventful game, with unsurprising results (that is to say, a win for the favourites).

However, an important testimony hints at another possibility:  Pluto (who John Frawley observes seems to have a grudge against the favourites), is placed in the 7th house (for Brighton) and opposes Arsenal’s 1st house cusp.  With such a powerful ally, it is possible that Brighton may do better than expected and put an end to Arsenal’s winning streak.

Astrological Football Forecast for the Premier League: 30th December 2024 Manchester United vs Newcastle United

Please note: Chart is cast for GMT/UST (00:00)

As usual when the Moon applies to conjunct the Sun, the Part of Fortune is on the cusp of the 1st house.  As this occurs every month at the time of the New Moon, the placement of the Part of Fortune is not significant to the result of the match.

Notwithstanding, the conjunction of the Moon with the Sun has great importance in this chart:  This is because Leo rises, and the Sun (ruler of the 1st house) represents the favorites.

The aspects of the Moon describe how the events of the match will unfold, and a lunar conjunction with a significant planet often points to the winning team.  It is rarely necessary to look beyond it at any other aspects the Moon may make:  The strength of the lunar conjunction is usually sufficient to indicate the result.

A conjunction between the Moon and the Sun (ruler of the 1st house) suggests that victory will go to the favourites.

So, who are the favourites?  Manchester United has the home advantage, but Newcastle are on a winning streak and are currently placed 7th in the table to Manchester’s 14th.  It seems likely that the Magpies will continue to play well and Newcastle will have cause to celebrate.

Is there any hope in this chart for Manchester United?  Possibly.  Venus, ruler of the 10th house (the house of victory for the favourites), is placed in the 7th house, the house of the underdogs: Venus in the 7th house shows that Newcastle’s hopes of victory are the power of Manchester United.  If Manchester United play better than expected, they could prove a severe hindrance to Newcastle’s ambitions.

The chart inclines towards a victory for the favourites, but a draw cannot be ruled out.

Astrological Football Forecast for the Premier League: 1st December 2024 Chelsea vs Aston Villa

Please note: Chart is cast for GMT/UST

Currently at 4th place in the table to Aston Villa’s 9th, Chelsea are tipped to win Sunday’s match at Stamford Bridge.

As favourites, Chelsea are denoted by the 1st house, Mars (1st house ruler) and Saturn (ruler of the 10th house; the house of victory for the favourites).

Aston Villa are represented by Venus (ruler of the 7th house).  They have no other significators in this match, as the Moon, (ruler of the 4th house, the house of victory for the underdogs), already has a key role describing the events of the match.

As the game takes place around the time of the New Moon, the Part of Fortune is in the 1st house.  This might seem fortunate for the favourites; but the placement of the Part of Fortune is linked to the Moon’s current phase and always occupies the 1st house at the New Moon. Observation shows that wins for the favourites do not always correlate with a New Moon, so the Part of Fortune’s placement by antiscion (which varies from month to month as the New Moon changes sign) is considered more significant in contest charts than her bodily placement.

The North Node is close to the cusp of the 1st house but, once again, this is not quite as favourable for the favourites as it might appear.  In his book “Sports Astrology”, John Frawley notes that a team’s planet falling on a Node will be helped or harmed, but that the house placements of the Nodes do not seem significant.

The Moon’s aspects describe how events will unfold and often (as in this case), hold the key to the result:  She applies first to a sextile with the antiscion of Saturn (at 17 Libra 05) which is positive for favourites Chelsea.

The Moon next applies to a square with the antiscion of the Part of Fortune at 18 Virgo 52.  This is just beyond the 5-degree orb of aspect considered most reliable for a 90-minute football match and suggests that underdogs Aston Villa will have an opportunity to change their fortunes in the latter stages of the game.

Verdict: Chelsea will dominate the match, but Aston Villa will have at least one chance to turn the tables on their adversaries.  The last few minutes of the game are likely to prove crucial.

Astrological Football forecast for League Two: 25th November 2024 Port Vale vs Crewe Alexandria

Please note: Chart is cast for GMT/UST (00:00)

This match promises some dramatic moments, as both sides are currently vying for promotion.

Home team Port Vale are the favourites:  They are represented by the Sun, ruler of the 1st house and Mars, ruler of the 10th house; the house of victory for the favourites.

Rivals Crewe have Saturn, ruler of the opposing 7th house as their main significator, with Venus (ruler of the 4th house) as their co-significator.

The Moon’s applying aspects show how the events of the match will unfold.  The first aspect the Moon makes (over the 5-degree orb considered most effective in a 90-minute football game) is a sextile to the Sun (ruler of the 1st house).  She next applies to sextile Mars (ruler of the 10th house).  Both these aspects favour the favourites, Port Vale.

However, the placement of the Moon (just inside the 4th house cusp) is a big boost to the fortunes of the underdogs, Crewe.

Port Vale have won their last three games against Crewe, but the heavens suggest that this match will be closely fought, with the outcome much less certain.

Crewe will prove strong opposition, but Moon’s aspects incline to a win for favourites Port Vale.

Astrological Football Forecast for League One: 16th November 2024 Exeter City vs Lincoln City

Please note:  Chart is cast for GMT/UST (00:00)

Lincoln’s average form has been consistently reliable this season:  At the time of writing, they are placed 5th in the table.

Home side Exeter are 11th in the table to Lincoln’s 5th place but have played one less game this season. Their current form suggests they too are not to be underestimated.

The odds are almost equally split between both teams, with (at the time of writing) a slight bias in favour of Exeter for the win.

As favourites, Exeter are represented by Saturn, traditional ruler of rising sign Aquarius.  Jupiter, ruler of the 10th house (the house of victory for the favourites) is their co-significator.

The Sun, ruler of Leo and the opposing 7th house, is main significator for visitors Lincoln.  They are co-signified by Mercury, ruler of the 4th house.

Pluto (who often appears to have a grudge against the favourites), hovers above the 1st house cusp. Fortunately for Exeter, Pluto is in Capricorn, not Aquarius, so they escape Pluto’s malevolent influence.

As ruler of the 7th house, the Sun is the main significator of Lincoln’s hopes for victory.  At 05 Aquarius 22, the antiscion (or shadow-placement) of the Sun is placed in the 1st house, under the influence of Exeter. This would be a strong testimony against Lincoln if the Sun were closer to the 1st house cusp (within 1-3 degrees) but, beyond this limit, is too weak to prove a severe affliction.

The Part of Fortune (at 10 Leo 23) is in the 7th house; the house of Lincoln.  However, for this to prove positive for the underdogs, the Part of Fortune would need to be much nearer to the 7th house cusp:  At nearly 9 degrees distant, this testimony is too weak to signify.

The Moon makes no aspects to either team’s planets over the 5-degree orb considered most effective for a 90-minute football match.  However, her placement, close to the cusp of the 4th house (the house of victory for the underdogs) is very favourable for Lincoln:  This testimony may be sufficient to decide the match in their favour.

Overall, this chart describes another closely-fought match, but inclines to favour the underdogs.  The odds for each team are close, but if the majority of the pundits are correct in naming Exeter as the favourites, the heavens suggest that Lincoln may carry the day.

Astrological Football Forecast for the Premier League: Sunday 10th November 2024 Chelsea vs Arsenal

Please note: Charts are cast for GMT/UST

The odds for Sunday afternoon’s match are almost too close to call, with the pundits divided on which team are the true favourites.  If each team plays to their strengths, there is definite potential for a draw:  Let us look at what the heavens say.

This is not a clear chart to judge.  Not only is the favourite team a matter of dispute, but there are a host of conflicting testimonies which suggest this match will be very evenly matched.  Nevertheless, there is much of astrological interest here.

Commanding attention at the top of the chart, Pluto lurks very close to the cusp of the 10th house (the house of victory for the favourites).  Close orbs of aspect (2 degrees or less) are most reliable in contest charts.  Here, Pluto is just over 4 degrees into the 10th house, greatly mitigating his baleful influence. Nevertheless, this is a warning that the favourites will find this match more challenging than expected.

Pluto is also closely conjunct the antiscion of Mercury, dispositor of the Part of Fortune, at 29 Capricorn 34, highlighting his importance to the outcome of the match.

At the time of writing, Chelsea are one place higher in the table than rivals Arsenal.  They are also the hosts, which is often believed to confer the advantage of home crowd support.  If Chelsea are the true favourites, they are represented by Venus (lord of the 1st house) and Saturn (ruler of the 10th house).

Their rivals, Arsenal, are signified by just one planet:  Mars, ruler of the opposing 7th house.  This is because the ruler of the 4th house (the house of victory for the underdogs) is the Moon who already has a key role describing, through her aspects, the key events of the match.

There is an applying aspect between the Part of Fortune and her dispositor Mercury. This favours the underdogs.

The Moon first applies to square Mercury, but her next aspect is a conjunction to retrograde Saturn, ruler of the 10th house, favouring the favourites.  This aspect is slightly over the 5-degree orb considered the limit of effectiveness for the Moon’s aspects in 90-minute football games, suggesting that the chances for the favourites will be best in the closing stages of the match, especially if the game strays into extra time.

Overall, the testimonies of this chart are fairly balanced:  The heavens agree that a draw is not out of the question, but a crucial opportunity will occur for the favourites should the match run into extra time.

If Chelsea are truly the favourites (and many pundits would contest this), extra time will work in their favour.  Otherwise, Pluto may prove a star player for underdogs Arsenal.
