Astrological Football forecasts for the Premier League will be taking a short break for the latest FA Cup fixtures and will return for the next Premier League weekend beginning Saturday 17th January 2026.

The pundits favour home side, Manchester City, to win easily against Chelsea – but do the heavens agree? 

The Moon is in the 1^st house (the house of the favourites) and placed very close to the house cusp.  This is a tremendous boost to the fortunes of Manchester City and suggests that the favourites have victory in their grasp.   

However, Pluto (who often seems to have a grudge against the favourites) opposes the 1^st house cusp from the 7^th house (the house of the underdogs), lending his support to Chelsea’s cause:  If Pluto chooses, he can make the match considerably more difficult for Manchester City, although he will need to work extra hard to overcome the fortunate influence of the Moon conjunct the 1^st house cusp.  

The Moon next applies to sextile the antiscion of Saturn at 03 Libra 37 (who, as lord of the 7^th house is main significator for the underdogs). This is a boost for Chelsea and suggests they will score at least one goal.  However, it is a comparatively weak testimony which is unlikely to trouble Manchester City’s dominance of the match.   

As well as the Sun (lord, 1 ruler of the 1^st house), Manchester City have Mars (ruler of the 10^th house) as their co-significator.  Saturn, lord 7, is the main significator for Chelsea, but they also have Venus (lord 4) as their co-significator. 

Both Mars and Venus are combust (closely conjunct the Sun): The amounts to a severe debility for both teams, which may limit the number of goals. Venus (for Chelsea) approaches closer combustion, while Mars (for Manchester City) is moving away from combustion.  This is a small distinction, as both planets are harmed by being so close to the Sun, but may be of slight benefit to Manchester City.   

The chart agrees with the pundits: Manchester City have the best chance of victory. However, both sides are likely to score and the match may prove more challenging than the favourites expect.

The pundits back Chelsea to win, but the match is expected to be closely fought. 

The Moon rules the 1^st house (the house of the favourites), but already has a key role describing the events of the match, so Mars (dispositor of the Moon) steps in as main significator for Chelsea.   

As the ruler of the 10^th house, Jupiter (traditional ruler of Pisces) is Chelsea’s co-significator. 

Aston Villa are represented by Saturn (ruler of the 7^th house) and Mercury (ruler of the 4^th house).   

Jupiter, ruler of the 10^th house, is close to the cusp of the 1^st house, but the aspect is separating: What would have been a positive testimony for Chelsea is severely weakened but nevertheless shows that this match is important to Chelsea, who will go all out to win.   

Saturn (lord 7) applies to conjunct the 10^th house (the house of victory and success), a strong testimony for Aston Villa.   

The Moon’s aspects (over the 5 degrees considered most reliable for a 90-minute football match) describe key events in the match: She applies first to square the antiscion of Mercury at 07 Capricorn 49 (lord 4, for Aston Villa) and then goes on to sextile the antiscion of Jupiter at 08 Gemini 06 (lord 10, for Chelsea).  Neither of these aspects are conclusive but point to a very close result.  

Overall, the chart inclines slightly in favour of Aston Villa, but promises a very close match. In charts such as these, a draw is a strong possibility.

The 1^st house, which represents favourites Liverpool is ruled by the Moon (ruler of the sign Cancer).  The Moon already has a key role showing how the events of the match will unfold.  The Moon’s dispositor would usually step in as substitute in such circumstances, but Saturn is already spoken for: As lord of the 7^th house, he is the primary significator for underdogs Spurs.   

This leaves Liverpool with just one significator: Jupiter, lord of the 10^th house (the house of victory for the favourites, and success generally in contest charts).   

In addition to Saturn, ruler of the 7^th house, Spurs have Mercury (lord of the 4^th house, the house of victory for the underdogs) as their co-significator.   

Jupiter, traditional ruler of Pisces and therefore the 10^th house (the house of victory) separates from a conjunction with the Part of Fortune and applies to conjunct the 1^st house cusp: Victory comes to the favourites.   

Or does it?  Saturn (lord of the 7^th house, (and main significator of the underdogs, Spurs) strongly placed in the 10^th house (the house of victory) has potential to cast a cloud of gloom over Liverpool’s hope for a win.   

On balance, Jupiter is closer to the 1^st house cusp than Saturn is to the 10^th, which should give Liverpool the edge.  However, Saturn’s influence for Spurs is strong and should not be underestimated.

The sign Cancer rises, leaving us without a primary significator for the favourites: The Moon, ruler of the first house, already has a key role in contest carts describing how events will unfold during the match.     However, this may not be necessary:  The Moon immediately applies to conjunct the 1^st house cusp, the house of the favourites.  In his book “ Sports Astrology” John Frawley describes this as extremely positive for the favourites “almost as if the cosmos is cheering for it”. 

In the absence of any testimonies in favour of the underdogs, it seems likely that the favourites (at the time of writing, Liverpool) will triumph.

The contest charts for this weekend’s football are generally lacklustre, and this chart is no exception: There are very few strong testimonies here.  The Moon applies to a square with the antiscion of Mars (lord 1): A weak testimony for the favourites, which is given greater strength by the antiscion of Mars’ placement on the cusp of the 10^th house (the house of victory for the favourites).   

With a lack of any counter testimonies for the underdogs, victory should go to favourites Liverpool, but the match is likely to be low-scoring.

Manchester City, favoured to win, are represented by Mercury (lord of the 1^st house) and Saturn (lord of the 10^th house; the house of victory for the favourites). 

Mercury (also lord of the 4^th house, the house of victory for the underdogs) is already spoken for as main significator for Manchester City, so in this contest chart Newcastle United are represented by just one planet (Jupiter, lord of the 7^th house).   

The Moon, which describes the action and events which define the match, is placed in the 7th house, very close to the house cusp.  This is a positive sign for Newcastle, hinting that they can take control of the match.  

Even more positively for The Magpies, Jupiter (in this chart, the main significator for Newcastle) applies retrograde to conjunct the Part of Fortune.   

These are both powerful testimonies in favour of the underdogs: The signs are that Newcastle will play much better than the pundits expect:  Manchester City will need to be on their guard if a major upset is to be avoided.

Astrological Football forecasts for the Premier League will be taking a short break for this weekend’s World Cup Qualifiers (15th-16th November), but will be back with the next Premier League Forecast on 22nd November 2025

Although hosts Manchester City are just one place above Liverpool in the Premier League Table (2^nd to Liverpool’s 3^rd at the time of writing) they have the home advantage and are favourites to win this Sunday. 

As favourites, City are described by Venus (lord of the 1^st house) and Saturn (lord of the 10^th house).   

With the Moon (ruler of the 4^th house) already occupied describing the events of the match, Liverpool have just one significator; Mars, ruler of the 7^th house. 

Mars (lord of the 7^th house), applies to conjunct the antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 08 Sagittarius 04): In the absence of any equally strong testimonies in favour of rivals City, this aspect would be powerful enough to hand victory to Liverpool. However, Mercury (at 06 Sagittarius 51) turns retrograde and intercedes before the aspect can happen.  This could show Liverpool coming close to winning but being denied victory due to a missed opportunity or twist of fate.  

The only other testimony of note is the application of retrograde Saturn to a sextile with the Part of Fortune. Aspects other than conjunctions or oppositions to the Part of Fortune are not usually reliable enough to guarantee a result on their own, but in an otherwise lacklustre chart may be enough to give City the edge. 

Overall, this contest chart promises a low scoring game, between two equally matched teams.  Manchester City will have a slight edge over their rivals, and a twist of fate may leave Liverpool fans feeling cheated of victory.

The pundits favour Spurs to win and the heavens agree. 

Mercury. Lord of the 1^st house (and main significator of the favourites, Spurs), applies to the cusp of the 7^th house (the house of underdogs, Chelsea).  Although this testimony does not guarantee a win for the favourites, it does show Spurs will dominate the match.  

The Moon’s applying conjunction to the antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 17 Pisces 45) is a different matter:  This is a strong indication in favour of the favourites. 

In the absence of any testimonies for Chelsea, a convincing win for favourites Spurs is the most likely outcome.
