Euro 2020 Day 17: 29th June 2021

Chart is set for BST (GMT+1)

Tonight at Wembley the Moon casts two compelling votes for the favourites: An applying square aspect to Mercury (Lord 10, victory for the favourites) and a trine to the Part of Fortune.  The Moon will need to travel 9 degrees to perfect the trine with the Part of Fortune, which far exceeds the 5-6 degrees usually considered effective for a 90-minute football match, but in matches between these two teams extra time is almost a certainty.

A win for the favourites is on the cards (and in the heavens). At the time and place of writing (the U.K.) England are predictably the favoured team.  If the odds at the bookies are accurate and not skewed by home team bias, a win for England is likely.

Euro 2020 Day 16: 28th June 2021

Chart cast for BST (GMT+1)

France, who finished first in their group are favourites for this evening’s match at Romania’s National Arena.  Their opponents Switzerland, who qualified as one of the best third-placed teams will need to work hard to deliver an upset:  Will help be forthcoming from the heavens?

As favourites, France are represented by Saturn, Lord of the 1st house.  Their opponents Switzerland are described by the opposing 7th house.  With Cancer the sign on the cusp of the 7th house, and the Moon already occupied as significator of events during the match, the Moon’s dispositor Jupiter is called from the substitute’s bench to play for Switzerland.

In his book “Sports Astrology”, John Frawley notes that Pluto often appears to have a grudge against the favourites.  Here, Pluto is placed very close to the 1st house cusp, a warning that all might not be smooth sailing for favourites France.  But as Pluto is placed in the 1st house, rather than directly on or above the house cusp, his malevolence is contained and lessened, and his placement may only reflect the injury-related issues with which France currently contend.

Charts where the sign of Cancer either rises or sets are never the clearest to judge (John Frawley notes that the duel role of the Moon can cause confusion), but the Moon’s impeding conjunction to Jupiter (substitute Lord 7) makes a strong argument for Switzerland doing better than expected.  Could a draw be on the cards?  Or an even more surprising result?

Euro 2020 Day 15: 27th June 2021

Chart is set for BST (GMT+1)

At the time of writing Belgium, who finished the first round at the top of their group, are the bookies favourites – but only just.  Defending European champions Portugal will prove formidable opponents and either team are more than capable of winning.  Can the stars provide any clues to the outcome?

As favourites, Belgium have Jupiter (Lord 1) as their main significator.  Mercury, ruler of the opposing 7th house, is star player for Portugal.

In Belgium’s favour, there is the application of Venus (Lord 10, victory for the favourites) to conjunct the Part of Fortune.  But this is only a minor testimony and Venus will need to travel 6 degrees to perfect the aspect, which is a little to far for to be reliable.

In contrast, the Moon’s immediate application to a trine with Mercury (Lord 7) is a strong vote of confidence for Portugal.

Provided the pundits have correctly named Belgium as the favourites, it will be their opponents Portugal who are likely to gain the advantage of the Moon’s aspect to Mercury and win the match.

Chart cast for BST (GMT+1)

aDenmark are odds-on favourites with the pundits but do the heavens agree?

As favourites, Denmark are signified by Mars (Lord 1) whilst Venus, Lord of the opposing 7th house represents Wales.

Were Mercury applying to conjunction with the Part of Fortune, this testimony would be strong enough to signify a win for Denmark (the Part of Fortune conjunct its dispositor favours the favourites).  However, this aspect is now past so we must look for another testimony to provide clues to the result.

This testimony comes from the Moon, who applies to an opposition with Mars, Lord 1.  This aspect perfects outside the usual 5-6 degrees usually considered effective for a 90 minutes football match but with extra time always a possibility, signifies a likely win for Denmark.

The only testimony for Wales is a square from the antiscion of Jupiter (Lord 4, victory for Wales) at 27 Libra 53 to Venus, Lord 7 at 29 Cancer 22.  This aspect is separating although the mutual reception by exaltation (Pisces is the exaltation of Venus, and Cancer is the exaltation of Jupiter) may give it greater influence than usual.  Mutual reception nothwithstanding, this testimony is too minor to win them the match but it may hold the promise of a goal.

Verdict:  Goals for both sides, but Denmark to win.

This Wednesday in Munich, just one astrological testimony will decide the result of Germany vs Hungary.

Germany, as favourites are awarded the 1st house and ruler Jupiter.

Mercury, ruler of the opposing 7th house represents Hungary.

Mercury, Lord 7 applies to conjunct the Part of Fortune:  As this testimony can signify victory by itself, the chart forecasts a win for Hungary and an upset for the bookies.

Euro 2020 Day 12: 22nd June 2021

Chart is cast for BST (+1 GMT)

Level at the bottom of Group D on one point each, both Croatia and Scotland need to win to stand a chance of progressing in the tournament. Croatia are the bookie’s favourites, but only by a slight margin. What can the heavens tell us about this crucial game?

The Moon’s proximity to the cusp of the 1st house acts as a surge of energy to the favourites, a sign that Croatia will come out fighting.

But the Moon doesn’t just act as an ally to Croatia: Her first aspect is a trine to Mars (Lord 4, victory to Scotland).

The Moon next aspects the antiscion of Venus (Lord 10, victory to the favourites) at 05 Gemini 21. Although this aspect is an opposition, it is still favourable for Croatia.

The favourites will have a slight edge, but given the balance in testimonies, a draw is the most likely outcome.

Chart set for BST (GMT+1)

Denmark are favourites to win in front of a home crowd at Copenhagen this Monday evening:  As the favoured team, they are awarded the 1st house and ruler Jupiter.

Russia are given the opposing 7th house and its ruler Mercury.

Both Mercury and Jupiter are strongly placed in signs they rule, but otherwise have little influence over the result:  The key testimony is the square from the Moon to Venus (Lady of the 10th house; victory for the favourites), which promises a win for Denmark.

Neither Switzerland or Turkey have yet won a game in this tournament, and both need victory to guarantee further progress. Who do the stars favour in Sunday afternoon’s fixture at Baku?

Neither Switzerland or Turkey have yet won a game in this tournament, and both need victory to guarantee further progress. Who do the stars favour in Sunday afternoon’s fixture at Baku?

Jupiter (Lord 1) represents favourites Switzerland.  Mercury, the ruler of the opposing 7th house is main significator of Turkey.

Jupiter, for Switzerland, is strongly placed in his own sign of Pisces (which he traditionally rules).

Mercury, for Turkey, is also placed in a sign that he rules (Gemini) and is no longer debilitated by combustion (placement within 8 degrees of the Sun).

He is, however, somewhat weakened by being under the sunbeams (within 17 degrees of the Sun): This notwithstanding, Turkey’s performance is likely to be considerably improved.

The Moon’s only significant aspect over the 5–6-degree orb usually effective for a 90-minute football match is a square to Mars (Lord 4, victory for Turkey).

Could Turkey come away from this match with 3 points?  The stars admit the possibility, but only the result will tell…

Euro 2020 Day 9: 19th June 2021

(Chart cast for BST: GMT+1)

An win for France is the most likely outcome to Saturday’s match in Budapest.  So say the pundits, but do the heavens agree?

As favourites, France are signifiied by the 1st house and its ruler Venus.  As the sign Cancer is on the midheaven, the ruler of the 10th house (victory for the favourites) is the Moon’s dispositor, again Venus.  This is because the Moon’s role as significator of events takes precedence over any house rulerships in the chart.

Mars, ruler of the opposing 7th house represents home team Hungary.  Saturns rulership of the 4th house (victory for the underdogs) is superceded by his role as dispositor of the Part of Fortune.

The Part of Fortune and dispositor Saturn apply to a conjunction (Saturn is retrograde, so an already close conjunction is getting closer still):  This is a compelling testimony for favourites France.

This aspect alone would be powerful enough to win France the match, but the Moon also casts her vote for the favourites, applying to square Venus (in her dual roles as Lord 1, and substitute Lord 10).  Note that the Moon first applies to trine Mercury retrograde, but as Mercury represents neither team in this contest chart, the first significant lunar aspect is to Venus.

In the absence of any corresponding testimonies for Hungary, France look the likely victors.

Euro 2020 Day 8: 18th June 2021

Chart is set for BST (GMT+1)

Slovakia won their last game against Poland by two goals to one. Admittedly this was helped by a Polish own goal, but the match was a convincing win, nonetheless.

Sweden only managed to hold Spain to a draw, but the pundits saw enough merit in their performance to tip them for victory in Friday afternoon’s game:  Do the heavens agree?

As favourites, Sweden are represented by Venus, the ruler of the 1st house.

Rivals Slovakia are awarded the opposing 7th house and its ruler Mars.

Had the start of this match been timed for a short while earlier, the trine from the Moon to the Part of Fortune could have proved a winning hand for Sweden. But by the time this match kicks off, that aspect will be past, and the Moon will next sextile Mars (Lord 7); a powerful testimony for Slovakia.

Mars, main significator for Slovakia, applies to conjunct the angle of the midheaven (victory, status and success).

Saturn (Lord 4) in his own sign of Aquarius also applies retrograde to conjunct the cusp of the 4th house (victory for the underdogs).

The only testimony in favour of Sweden is a minor one, the application of the Moon to trine the antiscion of Venus at 10 Gemini 31, promising them.

Overall the majority of testimonies favour Slovakia.
