Saturday 16th July 2022, UEFA Women’s Euros: Finland Women vs Germany Women and Denmark Women vs Spain Women

Eight-times tournament champions Germany are the favourites, and are represented by Saturn (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10).  

The Moon, ruler of the 7th house, is already spoken for as significator of events, so Jupiter (the Moon’s dispositor) stands in as the main representative for Finland. They are also signified by Venus (Lord 4). 

The Moon’s sextile to Mars is a highly positive testimony for the favourites.  

Mars hovers near to the 4th house cusp (signifying Finland’s hopes for victory quashed by Germany), but may be a little too far from the cusp to be significant (an orb of 1-2 degrees is preferred).  

Similarly, the antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 13 Taurus 28, placed inside the 4th house cusp) is not as strong a testimony for Finland as it would be if closer to the cusp (again, 1-2 degrees is preferred). 

There is potential here for goals for both sides, but Germany should come out ahead. 

The match between Denmark Women and Spain Women has the same kickoff time as Finland Women vs Germany Women, but important differences in the chart (due to the location of the match) show potential for a very different result.

Again, the favourites (Spain) are signified by Saturn (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10). Opponents Denmark are signified by Jupiter (dispositor of the Moon, Lord 7) and Venus, Lord 4.

As in the Finland vs Germany match, the Moon still applies to sextile Mars; an important testimony for favourites Spain. But the antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 11 Taurus 16) lies directly on the 4th house cusp; this is highly fortunate for Denmark.

Whether this is enough to upset the pundit’s predictions remains to be seen, but this promises to be a more evenly matched fixture than expected. A draw cannot be ruled out.

Friday 15th July UEFA Women’s Euro 2022: Northern Ireland Women vs England Women and Austria Women vs Norway Women

Following their decisive 8-0 victory against Norway, England are favourites and are signified by Saturn (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10). 

Northern Ireland are represented by just one planet; Venus (Lord 4): The Moon (Lord 7) and the Moon’s dispositor (Saturn) are already spoken for, as significator of the progress of events and main significator for England respectively.  

Mars (Lord 10) is placed on the cusp of the 4th house, showing England overriding Northern Ireland’s hopes of victory.  

Even more significant for the favourites, the Moon applies to conjunct Saturn (Lord 1). As lunar conjunctions with a main significator are usually conclusive, we need look no further for the result: England to win. 

The Austria Women vs Norway Women match kicks off at the same time as Northern Ireland Women vs England Women: With a virtually identical chart , the lunar conjunction to Saturn (Lord 1) should also herald victory for the favourites. However, here the favourites are more difficult to choose as both teams are tied in their group with 3 points each.

Austria are doing better on goal difference (Norway’s defeat to England again taking its toll) but the betting is siding with Norway to win.

This highlights the biggest challenge when judging contest charts: There must be a favourite, but they can sometimes be very difficult to determine.

If you believe the bookies, Norway look set to win.

But Austria’s form makes them a more convincing favourite (their match against England is a case in point; England won, but Austria held them to a 1-0 score).

Unless Norway can regain their form, Austria seem the more likely winners.

Italy will aim to come back fighting after their 5-1 defeat to France in their debut match of the tournament. The pundits think they can do it and have named them favourites: They are represented by Mars (Lord 1) and Mercury (Lord 10).  

Iceland’s significators are Venus (Lord 7) and Jupiter (Lord 4). 

The antiscion of the Moon (at 25 Scorpio 05) is just inside the 1st house cusp: A boon to the favourites, which offsets the debility of Mercury combust.  

The Moon first squares Mars, then trines the Part of Fortune (both testimonies for favourites Italy). However, the Moon’s next aspect is a sextile to Jupiter; supporting Iceland.  

Iceland drew against Belgium in their opening game. Although Italy will almost certainly prove tougher opponents, the heavens indicate the result of this game could be closer than the pundits expect.  

The Moon’s trine to the antiscion of Mercury (at 10 Gemini 23) is slightly outside the 5 degree orb usually considered effective for a 90-minute football match, but could indicate an opportunity for Italy in the latter stages of the game, most likely during extra time.  

As odds-on favourites, France are signified by Saturn (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10).  

As the Moon (Lord 7) and the Moon’s dispositor are already spoken for (the Moon marks the progress of events during the match, and Saturn, traditional ruler of the Moon’s sign of Aquarius, already has a role as Lord 1), Belgium only has one significator, Venus (Lord 4). 

There is very little going on in this chart: The only significant testimony is the placement of Mars (Lord 10) on the cusp of the 4th house, showing France dominating Belgium’s hopes of victory. A win for favourites France is the most likely outcome.

Favourites Sweden are signified by Mars (Lord 1) and Mercury (Lord 10). Switzerland have Venus (Lord of the opposing 7th house) and Jupiter (Lord 4) as their representatives.  

Mercury (Lord 10, victory for the favourites) is combust: This is not ideal for Sweden. 

The Part of Fortune’s bodily placement on the 7th house cusp is not significant: As the Part of Fortune is determined by the relationship between the Sun and Moon, this placement will occur around every month’s Full Moon. Yet the results of matches held at this time vary considerably.

More important is the applying trine between the Moon and the Part of Fortune. This is very fortunate for the favourites, and hints at a likely victory for Sweden (although with Mercury combust there could be some obstacles to be overcome). 

As reigning champions, Netherlands go into this match as favourites and will be seeking to improve on their disappointing opening fixture, where they drew with Sweden. They are signified by Jupiter (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10). 

Opponents Portugal are represented by Mercury (Lord 7) and Venus (Lord 4).  

Mercury is combust: As he is Portugal’s main significator, this could present a serious obstacle to their hopes.  

The Part of Fortune’s bodily placement on the 7th house cusp is routine at the time of the Full Moon and is therefore not significant. However, the lunar trine to the antiscion of Jupiter (at 21 Virgo 40) is a minor boon to the favourites.  

More significant is the placement of Mars (Lord 10, victory for the favourites) on the 4th house cusp. This is also positive for the favourites. 

All testimonies favour the Netherlands, who can be confident of a better performance than their opening match.

Both Denmark and Finland have scored fateful victories against each other in tournaments past, but this time round, the pundits favour Denmark. As favourites, they are represented by Mars (Lord 1) and Mercury (Lord 10).  

Rivals Finland are signified by the lord of the opposing 7th house, Venus, and by Jupiter (Lord 4).  

The Moon, describing the progress of events during the match, applies first to trine Mars (a testimony for Denmark) but then moves on to square Jupiter (for Finland).  

Mars applies to conjunct the Part of Fortune, a powerful testimony for Denmark, but Mercury (Lord 10, victory for the favourites) is applying to combustion with the Sun, a significant debility.

A draw seems likely, but it is just possible that, despite their current superior form, Denmark could lose out to rivals Finland.  

Germany are eight-time tournament champions, but many pundits think this could be Spain’s year: As favourites they are signified by Saturn (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10).
 
Germany have only one representative in this match; Venus (Lord 4): The Moon (Lord 7) is already spoken for as significator of events, and her dispositor, Saturn, already has a role as main significator for Spain.  

The Moon is in Capricorn, placed very close to the 1st house cusp: This is a powerful testimony for Spain.  

However, the Moon’s aspects paint a different picture: An opposition to the antiscion of Venus (at 6 Cancer 21) and a square to the antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 11 Cancer 55) both favour Germany.  

This promises to be a closely fought game between two evenly matched teams: The Moon’s placement close to the 1st house cusp is an advantage for Spain which will be difficult to beat, but all the Moon’s aspects are in Germany’s favour, a sign that they should not be underestimated.

Austria reached the semi-finals in 2017 and as favourites for this fixture are signified by Mars (Lord 1) and Mercury (Lord 10). Northern Ireland will be keen to improve on their tournament debut, which saw them lose 4-1 to Norway. They are represented by Venus (Lord 7) and Jupiter (lord 4). 

The Moon applies to oppose Venus, which is an excellent testimony for Northern Ireland. However, the antiscion of Jupiter (at 21 Virgo 46) is placed in the 10th house, showing that Northern Ireland’s hopes of victory are in the power of Austria. 

The Moon’s trine to the Part of Fortune (a testimony for the favourites) is just outside the 5-degree orb usually considered effective for a 90-minute football match, but extra time is always a possibility.  

This promises to be a closer game than the odds suggest (Austria are hotly tipped to win). Austria are likely to dominate the game but should not allow themselves to become complacent. There is a chance of at least one goal for Northern Ireland. The best chance of victory for Austria is likely to occur in extra time.  

Norway currently top the Group A table, leading on goal difference. But England retain the confidence of the bookies, and are the favourites for this match.

Belgium and Iceland are considered evenly matched, with many pundits predicting a draw. On recent form, Iceland may have a slight edge. If we choose them as favourites, they are signified by Mars (Lord 1) and Mercury (Lord 10). Their rivals, Belgium are represented by Venus (lord of the opposing 7th house) and Jupiter (Lord 4).  
The Moon applies to a trine with Jupiter, and Jupiter conjuncts the Part of Fortune: Both these testimonies favour the underdogs. If we have correctly picked Iceland as the favourites, then victory to Belgium seems the most likely result.   
France, one of the teams (along with Spain and England) hotly tipped for the title, are favourites: They are represented by Jupiter (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10). Italy are signified by Mercury (Lord 7) and Venus (Lord 4).  
The Moon’s trine to Jupiter is a strong testimony for the favourites. In the absence of any corresponding testimonies for Italy, France are the likely winners.

Switzerland, as favourites, are represented by Mars (Lord 1) and Mercury (Lord 10). Rivals Portugal are signified by Venus (Lord of the opposing 7th house) and Jupiter (Lord of the 4th house).  

The placement of the Nodes across the 1st/7th house axis does not signify: In contest charts the North and South Node are only effective for good or ill if they fall on a planetary significator, not a house cusp. 

The Moon’s placement directly on the 1st house cusp should award the game to the favourites. 


Great things are expected of Sweden, especially by their fans, who have arrived at this tournament in record numbers.  

However, the Netherlands will be doing their best to repeat their success of 2017, when they beat Denmark 4-2 to win the tournament.  

As favourites, Sweden are signified by Jupiter (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10, victory for the favourites). The Netherlands are represented by Mercury (Lord 7) and Venus (Lord 4, victory for rivals Netherlands).

Finland reached the Women’s Euro semi-finals in 2005.  Spain have only ever reached the quarter-finals, although they have achieved this twice (in 2013-2017).  Since then, Spain’s form has been steadily on the rise, making them this fixture’s favourites.   

Spain are signified by Mars (Lord 1) and Mercury (Lord 10, victory for the favourites).  Opponents Finland have Venus (Lord 7) and Jupiter (Lord 4) as their representatives.   

The Moon, main significator of the progress of events, applies to trine Mercury: Favourites Spain can be expected to make most of the running.  

 
Eight-times tournament winners Germany are favourites for this match (and serious contenders for the tournament title) but recent form suggests it would be unwise to underestimate Denmark either.

Germany are signified by Jupiter (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10). Rivals Denmark are signified by Mercury (Lord of the opposing 7th house) and Venus (Lord 4).  

The Moon’s placement, (very close to the 10th house cusp) gives a huge boost to Germany, who are also supported by the imminent lunar sextile to the antiscion of the Part of Fortune at 10 Virgo 13.

The Moon, signifying the progress of events, applies first to trine the antiscion of Mercury (24 Gemini 57); a favourable testimony for Northern Ireland. However, the Moon’s next aspect, is a sextile to the antiscion of Mars (28 Leo 14): The favourites have the final word.  

The conjunction between the Part of Fortune and Jupiter would be more definitive if it were closer, but still supports the verdict of the Moon; victory for the favourites.
