Women’s World Cup Semi-Final: 16th August 2023 Australia vs England

Currently placed 4th in the world rankings with Australia in 10th place, England are the favourites. However, Australia have a strong home advantage in the support of the Sydney home crowd: The result of this match is far from a foregone conclusion, and the heavens appear to agree.

Unlike other methods of judging contest charts, which automatically award the 1st house and its ruler to the home team, John Frawley’s method, outlined in his book; “Sports Astrology” gives the 1st house and ruler to the favourites. Therefore, Jupiter is the planet which signifies England.

Mercury, ruler of the opposing 7th house, represents their hosts and rivals, Australia.

The match takes place during a New Moon, which automatically places the Part of Fortune on the ascendant. This does not signify, otherwise the favourites would win every match scheduled at the New Moon, which does not happen.

More significant is retrograde Neptune’s proximity to the Part of Fortune and the 1st house cusp. Neptune produces unexpected outcomes and, like Pluto, appears to work against the favourites, so this is a worry for England.

Accidental strength is more important than essential dignity in contest charts, but it is worth noting that Mercury is in Virgo, the sign of his rulership and exaltation, and applies to the 7th house cusp: A formidable performance from Australia can be expected; they have the confidence and ability to win and should not be underestimated.

Overall, this chart is notable for its lack of clear testimonies for either side. However, the strength of Mercury (a positive for Australia) and Neptune’s affliction of the 1st house cusp (which spells trouble for England) are signs that the home crowd may have cause to celebrate at the final whistle.
