At the time of writing, Sweden are odds-on favourites to win: They are signified by Saturn (Lord 1) and Mars (Lord 10).
Rivals Belgium are signified by Venus (Lord 4). Venus is Belgium’s sole representative as the Moon (Lord 7) already has a role as significator of events, and the Moon’s dispositor (which would usually be substituted in such cases) is also Venus.
First, a look at the placements for some of the main significators: Mars (Lord 1) hovers fairly close to the 4th house cusp. This affords a slight advantage to Sweden, but Mars is not quite close enough to the house cusp to be conclusive (a maximum orb of 2 degrees is preferred).
The Moon is placed in the 4th house, but again is too far from the 4th house cusp to be truly helpful to Belgium.
More positively for Belgium, Venus (Lord 4) is close to the 7th house cusp: This is a strengthening influence which shows that Belgium will go all out to deny Sweden victory.
There is only one aspect of significance, and it involves the antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 28 Aquarius 13): This, a square from the Moon, favours Belgium. Note that Saturn (Lord 1) is conjunct the antiscion of the Part of Fortune, but the aspect is separating (Saturn is retrograde) and therefore in the past. It is also beyond the 5-degree orb usually effective in a 90-minute football match, so does not signify.
In his book ‘Sports Astrology’, John Frawley states that aspects to Fortuna (the Part of Fortune) or its antiscion are usually final. If this should prove the case today, Belgium’s superior defensive capabilities could triumph over Sweden’s attacking style. Time will tell!
