As favourites, the Ravens would usually be represented by the ruler of the 1st house. The Moon rules Cancer, the sign on the cusp of the 1st house. As the Moon already has a key role describing the flow of events, her dispositor Mercury steps in as main significator for the Ravens.
They have Jupiter (ruler of the 10th house; victory for the favourites) as their co-significator.
Mercury, ruler of the 4th house (house of victory for the underdogs) is already spoken for as substitute significator for the Chiefs, so they have just one planet to represent them; Saturn, ruler of the 7th house.
The Moon’s aspects show how events will unfold during the match. The only aspect she makes to a planet signifying either team is a trine to Mercury (for the Ravens).
As a 5-degree orb of aspect is considered most effective for football matches of all kinds, and the Moon must travel just under 7 degrees to perfect this aspect it may not be crucial to the result.
More significantly, the antiscion of Jupiter (at 13 Aquarius 02) is closely conjunct the Part of Fortune: This is a powerful testimony for the favourites, which should give the Ravens cause to celebrate this weekend.

Anything on the Lions/49ers matchup?

Hi Shaun, Thanks for your question. I hope you are enjoying the posts 🙂 I thought about including a post for The Lions vs 49ers game, but the charts for the two games are almost identical in all points which matter: The chart for The Lions vs 49ers match is very similar to the chart for Chiefs vs Ravens game (28th January 2024, Santa Clara, California 18:30 EST/23;30 GMT). As 16 Cancer 01 rises, the Moon rules the 1st house meaning Mercury steps in as substitute lord 1 for the favourites (49ers) and Saturn (ruler of the 7th house) signifies The Lions. The lunar trine to Mercury favours a win for the favourites (the 49ers). The orb of aspect is closer than in the Chiefs vs Ravens game, so this Moon/Mercury trine should play a key role in bringing victory to the favourites, the 49ers. A good Sunday for the favourites overall, but expect a great performance from all teams involved – both games promise to be well worth watching!

Thanks for the response. What if kickoff is at 18:40? The Bills/Chiefs kickoff was delayed by 10 minutes last week.

Great question! Late kickoffs are the bane of sports forecasting. If the sign on the 1st/7th house cusp is at the beginning or end of a sign, a late kickoff could potentially result in a different chart, and a different result. Fortunately this confluence of events doesn’t seem to happen too often, as it can really throw a spanner in the works of a forecast done in advance!

I forgot to ask, wouldn’t the Moon trine L1 not matter because it’s over 5 degrees? It’s also inside L7 (house of the enemy/Lions).

Hi Shaun, You are right – the aspect is over 5 degrees but only just. In the absence of any other testimonies I think this will still give the 49-ers the edge. It will be a hard-fought game though, possibly with a deciding advantage for the favourites in the 4th quarter. You are correct about Lord 1 (Mercury’s) placement in the 7th house, but it is too far from the house cusp to signify (John Frawley recommends orbs of 1-2 degrees at most). Thanks again for your thoughts – enjoy the game!

Hello again,
There was a delay in the Lions/49ers game – kickoff was at 3:41 pm PST. Lord 1 was just inside the 7H, but Lord 10 had changed signs from Pisces to Aries. The moon was applying a trine to Mars (less than 5 degrees) and Mars was just outside the 7H.

Thanks for letting me know, Shaun: That makes a big difference to the result. Glad to see John Frawley’s method worked, even if my interpretation of the original chart (allowing extra leeway for that lunar trine to Mercury didn’t). Clearly I have to be much stricter with that 5-degree orb in American football (the average game is of a shorter duration than British soccer) and watch out for those late kickoffs!
