As usual when the Moon applies to conjunct the Sun, the Part of Fortune is on the cusp of the 1st house. As this occurs every month at the time of the New Moon, the placement of the Part of Fortune is not significant to the result of the match.
Notwithstanding, the conjunction of the Moon with the Sun has great importance in this chart: This is because Leo rises, and the Sun (ruler of the 1st house) represents the favorites.
The aspects of the Moon describe how the events of the match will unfold, and a lunar conjunction with a significant planet often points to the winning team. It is rarely necessary to look beyond it at any other aspects the Moon may make: The strength of the lunar conjunction is usually sufficient to indicate the result.
A conjunction between the Moon and the Sun (ruler of the 1st house) suggests that victory will go to the favourites.
So, who are the favourites? Manchester United has the home advantage, but Newcastle are on a winning streak and are currently placed 7th in the table to Manchester’s 14th. It seems likely that the Magpies will continue to play well and Newcastle will have cause to celebrate.
Is there any hope in this chart for Manchester United? Possibly. Venus, ruler of the 10th house (the house of victory for the favourites), is placed in the 7th house, the house of the underdogs: Venus in the 7th house shows that Newcastle’s hopes of victory are the power of Manchester United. If Manchester United play better than expected, they could prove a severe hindrance to Newcastle’s ambitions.
The chart inclines towards a victory for the favourites, but a draw cannot be ruled out.

I read this chart the same way that you did. How did we miss the upset?
One thing is lord 10 less than 2.5 degrees inside the DSC, but that really shouldn’t be decisive.
I think it is that Saturn goes to conjunct Lot of Nemesis. Using all 7 hermetic lots gets rid of many of the Frawley system’s misses. Fortune, Eros, Courage and Victory go to the favorite and Spirit, Necessity and Nemesis go to the underdog.
Lots and angles outweigh lunar aspects to signifiers. Major star conjunctions (< 1 degree) with the lots are particularly important and outweigh any other testimony.

Often the main difficulty in judging contest charts is accurately determining the favourites, as (in the Frawley system) that honour does not automatically fall to the home team. Nevertheless, as Newcastle were on already a winning streak while Manchester United’s form had been patchy, I feel that a strong case could be made for Newcastle being the favourites. This being the case, the conjunction of the Moon and the Sun (Lord 1) proved decisive in favour of the Magpies. I haven’t done much research with the other Lots in contest charts and find this theory intriguing! It definitely sounds worthy of further research – thank you! 😉

You are right that Newcastle was the favorite in the Manchester United game, I was thinking about their upset over Arsenal
I do want to make some changes though: fortuna, eros and victory go to the favorite and spirit, necessity, courage and nemesis go to the underdog. Hermetic, day formulas only. Conjunctions beat aspects but conjunctions must be within 1 degree, even for the sun or for a signifier. Priority goes to fortuna and spirit first and then goes to the tightest conjunction with the other lots.
The Newcastle upset over Arsenal is explained by the conjunction between fortuna and Antares.

Thank you for posting this, Robul Wilkinson. I hope you will continue with your work with Lots (Arabian Parts) and fixed stars in contest charts, as it is yielding some interesting results!

Okay, I want to make another revision but I promise I will stop spamming after this.
We start with the Frawley method, but then we make the following changes:
This is not in final form but I feel very good about these rules as a framework for further study. We’ll see how it goes this weekend

I’m always experimenting with things but here is where I am right now (i.e. this is subject to change within the next 2 seconds)
No antiscia. No secondary signifiers.
Daytime charts: fortuna and victory day formulas for the favorite, night formulas for the underdog
Nightime charts: fortuna and victory night formulas for the favorite, day formulas for the underdogs
Depositors of fortuna (and victory) can be ignored
I won’t elaborate the logic on these assignments here, but there is a reasoning behind them
Conjunctions with fortuna/victory, be they sun/moon, Saturn, fixed stars, nodes are extremely important and trump all other testimonies
ALL lunar aspects to either fortuna or victory are positive. First aspect to fortuna wins. If nothing is happening with fortuna, first aspect to victory wins
For lunar aspects with a signifier, first aspect wins unless that latter aspect is a conjunction or opposition
Sun cannot be a signifier. Applying aspects to the sun other than combustion or opposition are beneficial but not as much as the moon. I can also explain the logic behind this later. First aspect wins. When ascendant/descendant lord is sun or moon, use MC/IC lord as signifier
Applying aspect between signifier and ascendant (or descendant in the case of the underdog) is beneficial. First aspect wins. This may be even more important than the moon
Everything else stays the same as Frawley teaches
With that in mind, I’m canceling my Tottenham prediction
