Astrological Football Forecast for the Premier League: 4th January 2025 Brighton and Hove Albion vs Arsenal

In their first match of the new year, Brighton and Hove Albion play hosts to Arsenal.  Arsenal are odds-on favourites to win, but do the heavens agree?

As favourites. Arsenal are signified by the Sun, ruler of the 1st house, and Mars, ruler of the 10th house (the house of victory for the favourites).

Although they are playing at home, Brighton are considered the underdogs, so are designated by the opposing 7th house and its ruler Saturn.  They have Venus, ruler of the 4th house (the house of victory for the underdogs), as their co-significator.

Mars, Arsenal’s planet of victory, rests on their 1st house cusp.  If Mars was placed inside the 1st house, this would show victory already in their grasp.  However, Mars is on the cusp, showing that Arsenal are strongly focused on winning, but their victory is not guaranteed, especially as Mars is retrograde and moving away from the 1st house cusp.

The Moon, whose aspects often show how events will unfold, makes no decisive aspects to significators of either team.  This may forecast an uneventful game, with unsurprising results (that is to say, a win for the favourites).

However, an important testimony hints at another possibility:  Pluto (who John Frawley observes seems to have a grudge against the favourites), is placed in the 7th house (for Brighton) and opposes Arsenal’s 1st house cusp.  With such a powerful ally, it is possible that Brighton may do better than expected and put an end to Arsenal’s winning streak.

  1. I don’t use outer planets but I also got a Newcastle win due to the antiscia of fortuna being combust. Any reason you didn’t mention that?

Although this was technically just a league game, it was also the prime time Monday night game of the strongest soccer league in the world. In games like this, the Frawley (or at least my slightly modified version of it) seem to hit at over 80% when there is a clear testimony for one team or the other. When nothing is happening in the chart, Frawley says that means the favorite will win but he is simply incorrect about that.

Do you know of any method that works for run of the mill league games? I’ve tried a tons of stuff and have gotten nowhere.

    1. Hi Robul Wilkinson, Thank you for taking the time to comment: I am glad you are enjoying the astrological football posts! The applying conjunction between the Sun and the antiscion of Fortuna (at 19 Capricorn 05) is highly significant in the Arsenal vs Newcastle match (played at the Emirates Stadium on 7th January 2025). I would interpret this as favouring the favourites.
I would be less inclined to take affliction by combustion into account, as, with an on-time kickoff at 20:00 and 29 Leo 59 rising according to my Astrogold software, the Sun is Lord 1, and primary significator for the favourites.
My report was for the game between Brighton and Hove Albion and Arsenal earlier in the week (Saturday 4th January 2025) in which the Part of Fortune and its antiscion do not take so prominent a role.
Congratulations on your success with the Frawley system. In his book ‘Sports Astrology’ he observes that this method works best for ‘stand alone’ games, like finals. He notes that it works tolerably well on days (like Sundays) where only two or three matches are played, but that there is a falling away of accuracy as matches become more commonplace. My experience concurs with that of John Frawley, that a system which can meet the challenge of forecasting the results of the majority of Saturday afternoon matches (which kick off at 3pm) remains elusive. I will continue to research this, and wish you luck on your quest! 🙂

  2. Thanks for responding!

Did you get the Tottenham upset over Liverpool? To me that chart is a clear Liverpool win as Liverpool’s primary signifier, Mercury, goes to conjunct the antiscia of fortuna. There are no other testimonies in the chart that I can see. So I’m not sure what happened.

The biggest miss I’ve ever had with Frawley’s method was this year’s men’s US Open finals: 2:16 pm, Sept. 8, 2024 in Queens, New York. Two extremely strong testimonies for the underdog and absolutely nothing for the favorite, and yet the favorite (Jannik) crushed his hapless American opponent.

    1. Hi Robul Wilkinson, Would this be the Carabao Cup game on 8th January 2025 (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 20:00 GMT/UST?). I agree, I would have judged a win for the favourites, Liverpool, based on the applying conjunction of Mercury (Lord 1) and the antiscion of Fortuna, just as you did. The aspect is very close to the 5-degree orb limit, but that shouldn’t have made a difference to the result. Uranus also applies (retrograde) to the 10th house cusp, which John Frawley has observed in his book ‘Sports Astrology’ strongly favours the favourites, although Uranus is a little too far away from the house cusp to signify (a degree or two is considered most reliable).
Sometimes, no matter how well-tested our astrological method, the heavens just seem to enjoy confounding us, throwing something unexpected into the mix! Thank you for bringing this chart to my attention – it presents quite the challenge, but one which has the potential to teach a great deal, if we could unravel all its mysteries!
