Astrological Football Predictions for Liverpool vs Leeds and Spurs vs Everton

The start of a new season is a time of hope and expectation, when every football fan allows themselves to daydream, however briefly, of their beloved team winning the ultimate prize. The bookies, however, are not so egalitarian: There must always be a favourite, and in our first featured match this is unequivocally Liverpool. But do the heavens agree?

As favourites, Liverpool are signified by the 1st house (22 Capricorn 50 ascends) and the 1st house ruler, Saturn (25 Capricorn 33). Pluto glowers on the ascendant, a caution that this match may not be the easy win for Liverpool the odds suggest. However, his baleful influence is parried by Saturn (Lord of the 1st house), strong in his own sign and house, and placed close enough to the ascendant to make a difference.

What of their rivals, Leeds? As the opponents of the favourites, they would usually be signified by the ruler of the 7th house. But with Cancer on the 7th house cusp, and 7th ruler the Moon already occupied as significator of the the progress of events, they have just one planet to represent them, Venus (ruler of the 4th house; victory for the underdogs) at 07 Leo 00. Unfortunately, Venus is peregrine (she lacks strength in the sign and degree where she is placed), makes no significant aspects, and can do little to avail their cause.

The Moon’s immediate application to trine the Part of Fortune (19 Scorpio 39) is a positive testimony for favourites Liverpool, but her next aspect, a sextile to to the antiscion of Venus (at 23 Taurus 00) inclines to favour the cause of Leeds, as does the following opposition to Pluto. Liverpool should take an early lead, but Leeds will also score. The Moon’s final opposition to Saturn, favours Liverpool, but the width of orb suggests that Liverpool’s best chances of victory will occur in the latter stages of the game, perhaps in extra time.

On to Sunday, and in the chart for our next featured match between favourites Spurs and their opponents Everton, Pluto and Saturn (both key players on Saturday) are now too far from the ascendant to figure strongly in the result.

The Moon at in a late degree of the sign wherein she is placed would usually be considered void-of-course, maintaining the current status of both teams and auguring victory for the favourites. However, this being her own sign of Cancer, of which William Lilly writes; “yet somewhat she performs if void of course and be either in Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius or Pisces”; the Moon has greater power to act. She needs to travel slightly over 8 degrees to make a conjunction to Venus (at 08 Leo 04), an aspect which Lilly would consider just within the moiety of both planets. As Venus rules the 4th house (victory for the underdogs), and conjunctions are usually conclusive, this could indicate an upset for the bookies and potential victory for Everton.

As always, the proof of astrological prediction is the result, and it will be interesting to test this theory regarding the void of course Moon on Sunday!
