Admittedly, it could be closer: John Frawley in his book “Sports Astrology” suggests a couple of degrees before the cusp, or a couple of degrees after it is ideal, but in a chart with so few testimonies, this could give Japan the edge.
The Moon’s applying aspect to Mercury (for Sweden) sounds a note of caution. This is the only relevant aspect near the 5-degree orb considered most effective in 90-minute football matches, and even this is outside that limit (as the Moon will need to travel just over 5 degrees to perfect the aspect).
However, as World Cup games seem particularly prone to extra time, this could suggest a last-minute opportunity for Sweden against which Japan must be on their guard.
