Astrological Football Forecast for the Premier League: Monday 20th January 2025 Chelsea vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

This chart is cast for the Premier League match between Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers, which is due to kick off at 20:00 (8pm) GMT/UST on Monday 20th January 2025 at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea

In John Frawley’s system for forecasting contest charts, the 1st house and its ruler is awarded to the team considered to be the favourites. This is not necessarily the home team.

However, in this match, hosts Chelsea enjoy both the advantage of a home crowd and the confidence of the pundits:  Despite their recent lacklustre form and current injury worries, Chelsea are placed 5th in the Premiership to Wolves’ 17th place and are expected to win easily.  But do the heavens agree?

In this chart, Chelsea are awarded Mercury (ruler of the 1st house and also the 10th house, the house of victory for the favourites).

Jupiter, ruler of the 7th house and the 4th house (the house of victory for the underdogs) signifies their opponents, Wolves.

Jupiter (for Wolves) is in the 10th house (one of the houses representing Chelsea).  Were Jupiter nearer to the 10th house cusp (within 2-3 degrees) this would depict Wolves in the power of Chelsea. However, even applying retrograde closer to the 10th house cusp, Jupiter is too far away for this to signify.

The same rules apply to the antiscion of Chelsea’s significator, Mercury:  At 11 Sagittarius 33, the antiscion of Mercury is in one of the houses representing Wolves (the 4th house, the house of victory for the underdogs).  However, he is too far away from the house cusp for his placement to represent any serious affliction to Chelsea’s hopes for success.

Potentially more significant is the opposition of Pluto to the antiscion of the Part of Fortune (at 01 Leo 57).  John Frawley has observed that Pluto causes problems for the favourites, so Pluto’s opposition could represent a serious obstacle for Chelsea.

Pluto is combust (within 8 degrees of the Sun), which is a serious affliction.  Whether this will mitigate or increase Pluto’s baleful influence remains to be seen.  Either way, it seems likely that Wolves will prove stronger opposition than the pundits expect, and a win for Chelsea is far from guaranteed.

  1. I also see this as a win for the Wolves, although one thing I’ve discovered is that often a “win” for the underdog just means either that the game ends in a tie or goes into overtime, so I will be taking Wolves and draw at +210

Frawley says that conjunctions and aspects to fortuna are final, and usually that is true, but there is an important exception: aspects that perfect during the game. Those are not necessarily final.

First lunar aspect here is is a sextile to spirit. The problem is that that aspect perfects 30 minutes into the first half. So we’d expect the Wolves to score a goal in the first 30 minutes but I wouldn’t say anything beyond that.

The next lunar aspect is a sextile to Wolverhampton’s lot of victory (underdog gets the night formula of fortuna, i.e. spirit, and also gets the night formula of victory). Unfortunately, this aspect is 5’50 always from perfecting, maybe too far. I generally agree with Frawley’s 5 degree limit but I do think it can be stretched in some cases.

Tentatively going with Wolves or draw.

    Thanks for making these, btw!

  2. Calling an Aston Villa upset of Arsenal today. If it hits, I’ll explain my reasoning. If it misses… back to the drawing board

    1. Aston Villa earned a come from behind tie. Using the Frawley method, the chart looks like a clear Arsenal win. This is why we need to make use of D9 charts (D9 charts can be cast by going to the vedic astroseek page, resetting the zodiac style to tropical, casting the chart and then clicking the selector box option for the D9).

In the D9 chart, the MC has what is known as a PKY yoga. That is when the houses on either side of a given house are occupied by a malefic. This *usually* results in a loss for whichever team has it. Conversely, a benefic on either side creates the SKY yoga which helps that team win. AFAICT, these yogas only have an impact in the D9 and make no difference whatsoever in the standard, D1 chart. I learned these ideas from Simon Chokoisky’s book The Gambler’s Dharma, although I strongly disagree with many of the other things he says in that.

Also, Jupiter is on the DSC in the D9. Jupiter on the DSC means nothing in a D1 chart, unless Jupiter is an opposing signifier, but it may be beneficial in the D9. More research is needed.

The D9 chart only seems to provide testimony one way or the other every 7 games or so, but when it does provide testimony, that testimony overrules whatever is in the D1 chart. Using divisional charts eliminates the need to use antiscia, as well.

The Newcastle upset loss today can be explained by Pluto being on the MC of the D9 chart. Pluto is also on the MC in the D1 chart but I don’t believe that means anything unless it is also within 2 degrees in the D9 chart as well: last week, the Buffalo Bills had Pluto right on their MC but they still crushed the Denver Broncos because Pluto was way off the MC in the D9 (game info: 01/12/2025, Orchard Park, NY, 1:02 PM LT)

  3. This one hurt a little but it was a good learning experience: The Wolves hung in there early due to the applying lunar sextile to spirit, but once that had passed, game over.

I’ve gone back and forth on this, but I really don’t think any of the lots other than fortuna or spirit do anything. Even if victory did do something it wouldn’t have mattered. 5 degrees is the absolute limit for lunar aspects. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way.
